The Power of Grounding

I think a grounding practise is so key to my own self development journey. If you imagine, that our auric body interacts with so many other auric bodies when we’re walking around a busy city – we don’t even need to talk to anyone without us having taken on their energy. I am very sensitive to energy and grounding is something I now do every morning that really helps me feel centred throughout the day, it is very simple and very powerful! The concept is that of a tree – if you see a tree in a storm, it doesn’t rip out of the ground and the trunk isn’t flailing around – and that’s because it has roots, it is grounded and firmly embedded in the earth. As soon as I step my feet out of bed I like to ground, as it ensures every interaction I have throughout the day it channelled through, down these visualised ‘roots’ from our auric body deep into the earth. It’s quite a nice analogy too, to know that all we feel and process can simply ‘pass through’, emotions aren’t to be ‘expelled’ or denied or judged, but just permitted to pass through and down.

-       Place both feet firmly on the ground

-       Be very conscious of your physical body and your breath (deep inhales in the nose, strong exhales out the mouth)

-       Now become extra conscious of the weight and presence of your feet, feel them become heavier and heavier and they weight down into the ground, they’re feeling heavier and heavier

-       Now visualise the soles of your feet growing physical roots that go through the ground and earth

-       These roots are shooting down and expanding / branching off, further wide and down, further than we can even comprehend

-       Now imagine that the roots are almost now pulling at the soles of your feet, as if you could be pulled through the floor – but you’ll never go through the floor, don’t worry!

-       Now imagine a bright white light entering the crown of your head, this light travels between the eyes, through the third eye chakra space, down the neck into the throat chakra, down both shoulders into the arms and hands, up the arms back to the shoulders and down the torso into the heart chakra space, soloar plxus space, down to the sacral and root, down both respective legs and into the roots

-       When we inhale deeply through our nose we visualise all this bright while light entering our body this way

-       When we deep exhale out the mouth, we imagine this energy going down through our roots into the earth

-       Congratulations – you are now grounded! You can repeat as often as you need – but remember the intention and visualisation is the most potent element, even 10 seconds is enough if you’ve made the connection to breath and your body

There are other ways you can ground too, if you walk barefeet on the earth (which we rarely can do in a city!) and even touch a tree (yes, really!) Sometimes I pretend I’m adjusting a shoe, or stretching when I’m in the park and I’m visualising my hand connecting to the tree and its roots
